GORHAM – The 14th annual Pitching, Hitting & Defense Clinics, hosted by the University of Southern Maine baseball staff, are scheduled for Sunday, March 5 and 12 in the Costello Fieldhouse on the USM Gorham campus. Players ages 8-18 are welcome.

The pitching and defense sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and the hitting clinics from 1-4 p.m.

Cost of each session is $30, or $50 for both.

Fishing derby on tap

A total of $500 in prizes will be awarded at the fifth annual Western Maine Fish and Game Ice Fishing Derby slated for March 4-5. Registration fee is $5 per person. There is no fee for those 12 and under.

Registration forms are available at Woodman’s Sporting Goods in Norway; The Village Tie-up and the Market Basket in Harrison; and the Bolster’s Mills General Store. Entry forms can also be obtained at the head of Long Lake on derby days.

Soccer clinic scheduled

LEWISTON – An indoor soccer clinic for players ages 6-13 is scheduled for Sunday, March 5 at Lewiston High School gym. Clinic fee is $5. Proceeds will benefit the YWCA Children’s Day Care Program.

Participants are asked to bring sneakers or indoor soccer shoes, a water bottle and a marked soccer ball. The clinic, to run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, will cover skills and will have controlled scrimmages. Registration begins at 8:45.

Golf tourney set

SACO – The 17th annual Sweetser Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, June 26 at Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland. The event will feature trick shot artist Kevin Compare. Golfers interested in registering for the tourney should contact Kristen Crean at 294-4485, or kcrean@sweetser.org.

Last year’s golf tourney raised nearly $50,000 for Sweetser, a mental health organization.
