WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) – Police arrested one brother and were looking for another Friday as they investigate the shooting of 23-year-old woman in her home.

Charissa Maher, 23, was in serious condition in a Boston hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the face suffered at her condominium Tuesday.

Rockingham County Attorney James Reams said Friday that police have arrested Douglas Maroun, 35, of Salem. He was to be arraigned at Salem District Court on a charge of falsifying physical evidence.

Police are still searching for Maroun’s brother, Nicholas Maroun, 28.

Reams said Nicholas Maroun identified himself when he placed the 911 call to report the shooting.

He declined to say whether or how the Marouns and Maher knew one another.

Peter Martino, a neighbor interviewed by police, told The Eagle-Tribune: “Based on what the police told me, they seem unsure if she shot herself or someone else shot her.”

A Salem District Court judge sealed all records related to the case.

Members of the Maroun family own the Omega Nightclub in Manchester. The state Liquor Commission refused to renew the bar’s liquor license in December after several incidents of violence and arrests. The club has stayed open with a temporary liquor license while it appeals the state’s decision in Superior Court.

The Eagle-Tribune has filed a right-to-know request seeking access to a recording of the 911 call.
