I just finished reading the article about how a man was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old (Feb. 23). I am sick and tired of hearing about grown men sexually abusing children and, when convicted, getting only 3 or 6 years in prison.

The abused child gets a life sentence.

Don’t our children deserve better treatment than the felon? What is happening to this country that we allow such felons to go on with just a slap of the wrist?

How many more children have to go through the pain of such an ordeal before we stop slapping and start smacking with the full force of the law?

No amount of time served by the perpetrator will ever bring back the innocence of the child, but at least make it so that the child can grow up before the man is released.
