AUBURN – Sarah Jane Bornstein, 89, died unexpectedly at her home in Auburn on Friday, March 3.

She was born in Bangor on July 4, 1916, the daughter of Samuel and Anna (Striar) Lavoot. She attended school in Bangor and graduated from high school in Boston.

She married Rudolph “Sonny” Bornstein on March 26, 1939. The couple moved to Auburn, where Sonny went into the family beverage business, today known as Crystal Spring Water Co.

Sarah was a homemaker until her children were grown. At that time, she helped run the beverage company until her husband’s death in 1981. She ran the company until 1991 when she retired.

She was a member of the Beth Abraham Congregation and the Sister Hood of Beth Abraham.

She is survived by her children, Mark and his wife, Deborah, of Falmouth, Richard and his wife, Susan, of Turner, Robert and his wife, Shirley, of Lisbon, Peter and his wife, Renee, of Auburn, and Julia and her husband, Dan Labonte, of Hollywood, Fla.; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Stacy, Lanie, Stephanie, Jacob, Calvin, Natalie and Allie; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Petie Lavoot of Las Vegas, Nev.

She was predeceased by a brother, Max Lavoot; and five sisters, Pauline Schindler, Rose Lavoot, Lee Ashmont, Joan Bluestone and Emily Winkeller.
