Portland – Gloria Nichols Korhonen, 58, a resident of Walnut Street in Livermore Falls, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 5 at Maine Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born in Farmington on Sept. 27, 1947, the daughter of Theron and Beverly (King) Nichols. She was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School, Class of 1965.

On June 26, 1971, she married Richard J. Korhonen at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. She was a homemaker most of her life but also worked for Bass Shoe Co. in Wilton and at the Livermore Falls Skating Center for more than 20 years. She was well-known for having worked the Maine county fairs with the King Family Cook House.

She was a devoted grandmother who followed all the sporting events for her granddaughter as well as nieces and nephews as a cheering enthusiast. Through her many health problems she received exceptional care from her husband and family. She spent her spare time on the computer and Internet and listening to her scanner to keep in touch with local happenings. She enjoyed all family functions and gatherings, and doing crafts with her granddaughter. She also enjoyed watching the demolition derby.

She is survived by her husband of Livermore Falls; a son, Michael Korhonen of Livermore Falls; a daughter, Michelle Korhonen of Livermore Falls; a granddaughter, Meegan Bonito of Livermore Falls; a brother, Val “Bub” Nichols and his wife, Betty, of Livermore Falls; two sisters, Dottie and her husband, Vern McDonald, of Wilton and Anita and her husband, Paul Adams, of Elroy, Ariz.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by an infant brother, Eugene Nichols; in-laws, Amos and Jeanne Korhonen; sister-in-law, Evelyn Pease; and brother-in-law, Ronald Korhonen.
