Michael Antoniou tipped a Topher Pochebit rebound past Scarborough netminder Jason Barden 45 seconds into the second overtime to lift Cheverus to a 3-2 win over the Red Storm at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Wednesday, giving the Stags their second consecutive Western Class A title.

The Stags will face Lewiston in a rematch of last year’s state title game for the 2006 crown Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Colisee in Lewiston.

Brent Mayo scored at 12:52 of the first period to put the Red Storm ahead 1-0, beating Cheverus netminder Casey Cox on the power play.

Jon Anton evened the score at 13:14 on a delayed penalty when he slammed a pass from John Keneborous past Scarborough keeper Jason Barden.

The teams skated scoreless in the second period, with both Cox and Barden coming up big.

Mike Antoniou chipped the puck into the top right corner of the net past Scarborough netminder Jason Barden at 12:36 of the third period to put Cheverus ahead 2-1, only to see two consecutive penalties lead to the Scarborough equalizer with five seconds to play in regulation off the stick of Ben Talbot.
