LEWISTON – Irene P. Jalbert Lariviere, 90, of 11 Lara Lane, Sabattus, passed away Thursday, March 2, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Lisbon on Oct. 1, 1915, the daughter of Alfred and Eugenie (Chamberland) Jalbert.

She had been a resident of the area all her working life as a fancy stitcher in the local shoe industry, retiring from Belgrade Shoe where she had worked for several years.

She married Gerard Lariviere on July 3, 1971, in Biddeford. He died on Oct. 27, 2004.

In her later years, she enjoyed traveling, going out to eat with her son, Raymond Whitehouse and her husband, Gerard Lariviere and visiting her niece, Rachel Cote and her grandchildren, Cody, Taylor, Noah, Austin, nieces Kathy Whitney, Cynthia Nicholas and their families. She also enjoyed spending the holidays together, good times, knitting hats and mittens for needy people and afghans for family and friends.

She was a wonderful mother, wife, aunt and great-aunt. She will be sadly missed by her family and especially her son, Raymond, where she was living when she passed.

She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church.

She is survived by her sons, Norman Whitehouse and his wife, Janet, of Rhode Island, Raymond Whitehouse of Sabattus; special niece, Rachel Cote and husband, Leonard, of Lewiston; great-nieces, Kathy Whitney, Cynthia Nicholas and their families, little Noah, Cody, Taylor, Austin; sisters, Lucille Menalgo of Florida, Lorraine St. Claire of Gorham; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband; 13 brothers and sisters.
