Public skating

AUBURN – A special public skating session will be held from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Ingersoll Arena, Pettengill Park.

Cost is $3 for adults; $2, high school students and under and senior citizens; free, 4 and under.

Hummel chapter

Seniors dinner

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Hasty Community Center.

Members are reminded to bring their utensils for the boiled dinner. Bingo will be played after lunch.

The club met on March 1 with 72 present. Barbara Taylor of Legal Services for the Elderly spoke on issues and informed seniors of the free legal services available. Attendance winners were Virginia Trafford and Shirley Hawkins; pot of gold, Clara Pike, Bill Redmun and Beverly Lashua.

Color guard show

LEWISTON – A Lewiston High School Color Guard Spectacular will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Lewiston High School gym. Cost is $3 for students and $5 for adults.

The following groups are expected to attend: Biddeford, Greely Middle School of Cumberland, Edward Little High School Guard and Percussion, Leavitt Area High School, North Yarmouth Memorial School, South Portland High School and Westbrook High School.

This is the first year that the Maine Band Director’s Association has sanctioned the evaluation of winter guards.

Groups will be evaluated against a national standard by two judges.

Adoption meeting

AUBURN – Anyone interested in learning more about adopting from China is invited to attend Great Wall’s free workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Community Room, 10 Simpson Beach Road. French film to air

LEWISTON – With the sponsorship of the Sisters of Charity Health Care System and its education director, Dale Morrell, the Martel and Fortier Chapters, L’Association Canado-Americaine, will present a French film, “Tante Danielle,” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Lepage Center, 99 Campus Ave.

The film is being shown in conjunction with “La Semaine de la Francophonie Internationale.” It depicts the life of an elderly woman and her mischievous escapades.

The film, which lasts approximately two hours, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 783-6346.

Dogs to visit

AUBURN – Volunteers and dogs from North East Rottweiler Rescue will be at Pet Quarters, Shaw’s Plaza, 600 Center St., from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18.

The rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of the Rottweiler breed. It also provides information on training, health and nutrition for all dog lovers. Donations, volunteers and foster homes are needed. Call 1-866-392-0102 for more information.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston- Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on March 7 were: first, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; second/third tie, Helen Little and Mary Leahey with Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; fourth, first in B, Betty and Doug Sise; second in B, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on March 8 were: first, Tom Dahlberg and David Wallace; second, Anna Vitiello and Paul Barber; third, Katie Love and Don Smith; fourth, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus.
