LEWISTON – Charles R. Bixby, 73, of Poland, went to join his loving wife Friday evening, March 10, at d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in North Turner on Oct. 2, 1932, the son of Charles C. and Lucy Perham Bixby. He attended schools in North Turner, Oxford and the Rumford area.

He had been employed at Structural Concrete and Bon-Am Footwear, and retired from Poland Spring Bottling Co.

On March 15, 1955, he married Barbara Strout. She died on April 6,1999.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Ribbon. He then joined the National Guard out of the Norway Armory and served six more years.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 150 in Mechanic Falls.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles, his flower and vegetable gardens, and cooking.

Survivors include a son, Charles F. of Poland; a daughter, Gail Bixby of Lewiston; a son, Leroy G. and his wife, Christine, of South Thomaston; a daughter, Dorothy R. Bailey and her husband, Joseph, of Sabattus; a son, Donald C. and his companion, Suzanne Killen, of Poland; one sister, Dorothy Allen and her husband, Clarence, of Oxford; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Ryerson of Poland, and Beverly Bixby of Skowhegan; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bixby was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Levi, Roy, Richard and Elton; and two sisters, Ida Knapp and Pearl Smith.
