-The long and eventful life of Susan B. Anthony closed at 12:40 o’clock this morning. The end came peacefully. Dr. M. S. Ricker, her attending physician, said Miss Anthony died of heart failure induced by pneumonia of both lungs.

-Suet Pudding – Mrs. Addie M. Allen, Greene: One cup sugar, one cup finely chopped suet, one cup sour milk, one teaspoonful each soda and salt, one cup each raisins and currants, one-half teaspoon cinnamon, 3 cups flour. Steam one hour.

Sauce – One-half cup sugar, one-fourth cup butter, one tablespoon flour and nutmeg to taste. Stir to a cream, place on the stove and add three cups of boiling water, when cooked, add one-half glass grape jelly.

50 Years Ago, 1956

Some of the outstanding tourist attractions of Maine have been filmed by American Airlines for its new 30-minute color and sound travel film entitled “New England Adventure” which will have its premier Tuesday at Boston at a meeting of the Advertising Club of Boston.

The film is part of a “boost New England” plan to bring tourists into Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts from all parts of the country by American Airlines.

Invited to the premier, from Maine will be representatives from the Maine Publicity Bureau, the State Chamber of Commerce and Robert L. Simpson, manager of the Marshall House which is featured in the film along with Boothbay Harbor, Pemaquid Point, York Harbor and Perkins Cove.

25 Years Ago, 1981

LaVerdiere’s Super Drug Stores has recently received recognition from several major pharmaceutical companies for having filled their Ten Millionth Prescription.

Plaques and trophies were presented on several different occasions by leading manufacturing companies. This is a “first” for any drug store chain in the northern New England states.

The LaVerdiere’s Super Drug Stores Chain found its beginnings in the Waterville Professional Building in 1922 when Evariste LaVerdiere opened a tiny store in the lobby.
