EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (AP) – A teenager from East Hampton was charged Sunday night with threatening high school students through postings he made on the popular Web site, MySpace.com.

Erik Brunsgaard, 18, was arrested at his home without incident just before 9 p.m., police said. He was charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree breach of peace.

The arrest was made after police said they received numerous complaints. The alleged threats and insults were aimed at East Hampton high students who use the Web site, police said. Police did not release the content of the postings.

Brunsgaard is due in Middlesex Court today.

MySpace, a division of NewsCorp., offers a free way for users to meet any of more than 60 million members. Searching by hometown, alma mater or interest, old friends can reconnect, musicians and filmmakers can find audiences and donors can find causes. But in the past month, authorities nationwide have expressed concern that the searching options that make the site popular also put children at risk for abuse.

Earlier this month, two men – one from New Jersey and one from Pennsylvania – were arrested by federal authorities for allegedly using the Website to set up sexual encounters with underage Connecticut girls.
