I would like to see a methadone clinic in the Lewiston-Auburn area. For more than a year now, I have been transported to a clinic in Westbrook and back every day. That’s 80 miles. The clinic will not, for obvious reasons, let those who need that medication take a supply home. MaineCare pays organizations to provide drivers for that service, which adds up to several thousand dollars a year.
I had to take pain medication for a back injury but, after many years, I had to stop; the medications affected my liver. Methadone works for me, and dozens of other area residents.
I have not abused pain medications for more than a year.
