RUMFORD – Ruth Cornish, 75, died Monday, March 13, at the Rumford Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She resided on the South Rumford Road.

She was born in Rumford, on April 21, 1930, a daughter of William and Shirley (Gill) Austin. She was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford with the Class of 1948. She worked as an office manager for Puiia Lumber and Town & Country.

She volunteered at the Rumford Community Home. She loved camping, animals and feeding the birds.

She was married in West Peru on March 21, 1948, to Raymond E Cornish who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include two daughters, Linda Moriarty and her companion, Kevin Kohlstrom of Hubbardston, Mass. and Donna Cornish of Rumford; sister, Rachel Lovejoy of Peru; brother, Richard Austin and his wife, Dot, of Lewiston; grandsons, Dennis, Eric and Joshua; great-grandsons, Riley, Noah, Austin, Jacob; brother-in-law, Basil Cornish of Rumford; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Putnam of Peru and Jane Austin of Peru; daughter-in-law, Faye Cornish of Gorham, N.H.; special friend of the family, Cheryl McCullough of Rumford.

She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Cornish; a brother, William Austin; and a sister, Verlie Child.
