LEWISTON – More than a dozen vehicles and businesses were targeted Tuesday by vandals who police say covered a wide swath across the city over a period of hours.
Someone wielding either a BB or pellet gun hit at least 15 windows beginning early Tuesday morning, police said. Early estimates were that several thousands of dollars in damage resulted.
“It wasn’t in just one area of the city,” said police Sgt. Michael Parshall. “It was all over. Someone was out on a general crime spree and they caused a lot of damage.”
Damage was reported on the outskirts, near the Lisbon town line, as well as closer to the downtown. Police believe the suspect or suspects were riding around in a vehicle and firing randomly at cars, trucks and business windows.
Police said it appeared the spree began early Tuesday morning and ended sometime before noon. By Wednesday, police were still taking reports from other vehicle and business owners who noticed damage.
By Wednesday, there were no reports of injury as a result of the shooting spree. Police said they were investigating the case and speaking with potential witnesses.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to phone police at 784-6422.
