RUMFORD – Area residents can be screened for their risk of having a stroke during a Life Line Screening Wednesday, March 22,, at the St. Athanasius and St. John’s School, 138 Franklin St. Appointments will begin at 11 a.m.

A stroke is ranked as the third leading killer in the world, and the second among women. Screenings are fast and painless.

They involve the use of ultrasound technology, and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which can lead to a stroke; aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta; and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which are a predictor of heart disease.

A bone density screening is also available.

Each screening requires 10 minutes or less. A vascular screening package is $109. The vascular package and osteoporosis screening are $129.
