LITCHFIELD – George Thomson is running as the Republican candidate for House District 80, which comprises Litchfield, Wales and Monmouth.

Thomson, a highly decorated colonel in the U.S. Air Force and a former Oak Hill High School chemistry teacher, said he looks forward to running and earning the votes necessary to serve.

Before moving to Litchfield, Thomson was assigned to Loring Air Force Base as a pilot during the Vietnam war.

He has been active in the community, having served in numerous volunteer organizations including the Volunteer Fire Department, First Responders, Boy Scouts, American Legion, Masons and the Kent’s Hill School Parents association.

He is the father of three grown children and lives in Litchfield with his wife, Jean.

As a member of the Maine House, Thomson said he would ensure that the services people of the district need are delivered efficiently.

He wants to reduce Maine’s overall tax burden while improving the management of state government for the benefit of the people.

“The backbone of Maine’s economy has been the small business owner, and I am going to honor that heritage,” Thomson said in a prepared statement. “The hard-working people of this state deserve the opportunity for a strong economic future. The bottom line for all legislators should be: Is this good for the people of Maine?”
