The Greenhouse Effect is the natural heating of the earth to keep it at a habitable temperature by human beings. When the sun hits the earth, the rays are changed to heat, which then heats the land and ocean. After hitting the earth the waves are reflected back into space as long wavelengths, or infrared energy. Usually these would shoot back into space, but due to gases produced all the time, as in smog, and carbon dioxide from cars, and other sources, and is then shot back toward the earth, reheating, and making the temperature rise.
Over the years, the gas has steadily built up, but it all really began to start back in the Industrial Revolution. With the increase in greenhouse gases being produced the earth began its slow decline. An observatory in Hawaii shows a 25% increase in C02 in the past 30 years. In the 50’s many heat records were broken. Despite this evidence they can’t make a definite connection, scientists predict a warming trend, and say the average earth temperature will rise from 3 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit in the next century, due to this the sea level could raise 5 to 15 inches from melting polar ice caps. Chlorofluorocarbons are also believed to be contributing to this, and even they are produced in much smaller amounts, they trap heat 10,000 to 20,000 times better than C02.
I do believe global warming exists mainly because of all the evidence I have just placed before us. I also believe humans are the cause. Despite the earths natural cycle of Ice Ages, we have just gave nature a short boost in the last two hundred years. By all the gases being put out, and with few regulations in place, (mostly in poorer countries), and the increased amount of drivers on the road today, who of course are one of the bigger causes towards this, I believe global warming has to be real, and if we don’t stop sometime soon, there won’t be an earth left to enjoy.
