AUGUSTA – Roger Augustin Dufour, 78, of Winslow died Monday, March 20, at the Maine Veterans’ Home after suffering a stroke seven years ago.

He was born in Lewiston, Dec. 23, 1927, a son of Augustin and Eva (Parent) Dufour.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later went into business for himself as a Pepsi-Cola distributor, and also owner of Dufour’s Garage, International Harvester Dealership and Dufour’s Construction and Excavating, all from his Airport Road location in Waterville.

He was very proud to have obtained his private pilot’s license and was a communicant of the parish of the Holy Spirit having attended Notre Dame Church for over 50 years. A member of the Waterville American Legion having recently received his 50-year certificate.

Surviving are his wife Lorraine (Fortin) Dustin Dufour; four daughters, Denise Royle and her husband, Frend, of Blacksburg, Va., Helen Davis and her husband, Scott, of Sidney, Cynthia Fletcher and her husband, Todd, of Sidney and Anita Berger and her husband, John, of Mechanicsville, Md.; two brothers, Florian Dufour and his wife, Lillian, of Lewiston and Raymond Dufour and his wife, Lorette of Greene; grandchildren, Joe and Christopher Royle, Elizabeth and Katherine Davis, Benjamin Godwin, and Daniel Berger; five stepchildren, Gary Dustin and his wife, Patty, Kathy Dustin and her husband, Tim Breen, Nancy Shorty and her husband, Ronald, Lisa Finnemore and Paul Dustin; 11 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Carmen (Landry) Dufour; three brothers, Donat, Marcel, and Victor Dufour; and a sister, Marie Dufour.

The family would like to thank Sandra Burbank and Kim Crandall (long-term care givers), Dr. Edmund Ervin for his kindness and the staff on Unit C at the Maine Veterans’ Home for the care and love they showed Roger these past five months.
