TURNER – A DeCoster dump truck loaded with chicken feces overturned off Route 219 Wednesday afternoon, shutting the road for hours and leaving a sticky, icky mess.

Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Deputy David Rancourt said the driver, Darren Gile, 46, of Livermore Falls, likely lost control on a frost heave before hitting a pole on the opposite side of the road, heading over the embankment and rolling the truck on its side.

The accident happened about 2:30 in the afternoon. The truck was destroyed, its load spilled everywhere.

“The driver, remarkably, wasn’t injured and he wasn’t wearing a seat belt,” Rancourt said.

Deputy Travis Lovering responded first to the scene and waded through the debris checking the cab for passengers and checking the truck over for damage.

“Deputy Lovering was covered,” Rancourt said. “That stuff sticks to (your) boots like glue. It’s going to take a few days to get that off.”

The road reopened after 8 p.m. The load will be picked up today, Rancourt said. The Department of Environmental Protection ruled it too close to a nearby stream to linger any longer.
