LITCHFIELD – Curtis Jack of Lewiston, who has been serving as interim assistant principal for Litchfield’s two elementary schools, is now assistant principal.

The Litchfield School Committee recently voted to approve Jack as assistant principal of both the Libby Tozier School and the Carrie Ricker School. The Libby Tozier School teaches grades kindergarten to two; Carrie Ricker grades three to eight.

“I’m very pleased,” said Paul Malinski, superintendent of School Union 44, which includes Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales. “I’ve known a lot of educators over the years. We could not have picked a better candidate.” Malinski praised Jack on Wednesday as being a “people person” and having high ethics. “He’s the kind of human you’d want for your best friend.”

Since September when Jack became interim assistant principal, he’s handled the job well, Malinski said. That included a stormy period in January and February, when Carrier Ricker Principal Aurelie Bush was placed on leave. The loss of the popular principal upset students and parents. Parents held a rally in her support.

“She’s back on the job, that’s all I’m going to say,” Malinski said. During the controversy when students and parents were upset, Jack handled the situation with ease, Malinski said. Before serving as interim assistant principal, Jack was a social studies teacher at the Carrie Ricker middle school.
