LEWISTON – Sandi Burnham is home and safe.

The 14-year-old Lewiston High School freshman returned home Wednesday morning after reading about her mother’s search in the Sun Journal.

The girl was gone for five days.

“She figured she’d better come home before she got in even more trouble,” said Sandi’s mom, Olive Burnham.

She said her daughter had been staying with friends.

The girl had a history of running away for as much as a day at a time, but her mother panicked after she failed to return home last weekend. She called police, who entered the girl’s name and description into the National Crime Information Center, and put up fliers around Lewiston’s downtown.

“She’s safe, thank God,” Olive Burnham said Wednesday.
