BASS LAKE, Calif. – Gordon Whitwell Carver, 87, died March 15, in Bass Lake, Calif., after a short illness.
He was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Auburn, the son of Lester Elwood Carver and Lucy Evelyn (Solomon).
He married Doris (Sally) Marie Nelson in February 1953 and they were married for 39 years, until her death in 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II in North Africa and Italy, Company B, Third Medical Training Battalion.
He was active in the North Auburn Methodist Church, Odd Fellows in Auburn, the East Auburn Men’s Club and the Bear Pond Improvement Association.
He retired as manager of the Maine Die Co. of Auburn after over 30 years in the shoe die industry.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Carver of Bass Lake, Calif.; son, Bruce Carver of Brunswick; his sister, Ferne C. Leighton of Rome; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
