AUBURN – Thirteen community college students, including one from Auburn and one from Paris, have been honored for their academic achievement, community service and leadership.

The 13 were recently named to the All-Maine Academic Team, which is part of an international honor society for two-year colleges.

They competed with dozens of fellow students for the statewide honor.

From Central Maine Community College in Auburn, Katreena Corriveau and Janaya Millett were chosen. Corriveau, 19, an early childhood major, has a 3.6 grade point average and volunteers for multiple children’s programs. She lives in Auburn.

Millett, 20, a liberal studies major, has a 3.6 grade point average, played sports for the school and served as an intern for Rep. Michael Michaud. She lives in Paris.

Both applied for the honor, submitting recommendations and information about their academics, leadership skills and community service.

They were honored with other winners at a ceremony Tuesday.

“It made me feel like a star,” Corriveau said.

After graduation this May, Corriveau plans to run the preschool program at her mother’s day-care center. She hopes to own her own day-care center one day.

Millett plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono, with a major in political science.

She hopes for a career in international relations.

Named to the All-Maine Academic Team, Corriveau, Millett and the other winners received $500.

They are now eligible for the All-USA team, which honors 60 students from across the country.

Other All-Maine winners include: Stephen McGuire of Veazie, Leah Scott of Fairfield, Scott Fairfield of Knox, Lori Keith of Presque Isle, Renee Eager of Presque Isle, Aimee Michaud of Brunswick, Vi Nguyen of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and South Portland, Catherine Lee of Eastport, Stephanie Ireland of Baileyville, Ashley Senecal of Arundel and Cheryl Cheever of York.
