AUBURN – No. 6 Scott Thayer Auto (6) upset No. 1 Pike Industries 62-52 Wednesday night to advance to the championship round of the Auburn Rec Men’s Slowdown Basketball League post-season tourney.

Once-beaten Thayer will take on undefeated Brew Crew (2) Monday at 7:00, needing 2 victories that night to claim the title.

The Automen were led by Chris Randall who popped in 21 points. Don Gayton added 15. Pike was paced by Ryan Giroux with 20 and Jared Erskine with 17.

It’s been a long comeback for Thayer in the playoffs. The Automen opened with a victory over First Stringers (11), but then dropped a decision to Fitness World (3). Thayer has worked its way through the losers’ bracket, eliminating Free Agents (9), West Shore (7), LA Dox (4), J.F. Murphy (5) and Pike (1).
