Auburn – Phyllis G. French “Gram,” 81, of Minot, died Friday, March 24, at Clover Manor where she had lived for the past few weeks.

She was born in Lewiston on Aug. 23, 1924, a daughter of the late William and Ellen (Banks) Rowbotham. She graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of 1941. She was a member of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Auburn.

For more than 40 years you could find Gram doing volunteer work at many local schools. Her last 20 years were at Minot School earning her the M.E.A. Golden Apple Volunteer of the Year award in 2000. For many years, she was a dispatcher for the Minot Fire Department.

Survivors include two daughters, Dottie Herrick and husband, Steven, of Poland, Mary Kay Crooker and husband, Stephen, of Poland, two sons, Greg French and wife, Sally, of Auburn, Steve French and wife, Brenda, of Minot, grandchildren; Jennifer French, Michael French and his wife, Torry, Jayme and his wife, Alice, Laurie French and fianc, Ryan Herrick, Jocelyn Baum and husband, Jeff, Christine Herrick and fianc, Nick Lenehan, Nathan Herrick, Brad Robichaud and fianc, Jodi Bellemare, and Bryan Robichaud; and a great-grandson, Patrick Baum.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jay D. French; and two sisters, Dorothy Rowbotham and Mary Sweeney.
