LIVERMORE FALLS – SAD 36’s superintendent has people reviewing the applications for high school principal that have come in so far.

Livermore Falls High School Principal Rod Wright will retire at the end of the school year.

Seven applications have been received and Superintendent Terry Despres plans to advertise for more, he said.

Contrary to some rumors, Despres said Thursday, there are no inside candidates.

A search committee will be formed tasked to look for someone who is a “change engine” to lead the school’s efforts in regional cooperation, construction projects and student aspirations, Despres said.

SAD 36 directors also approved junior-class representatives’ request to pursue a senior class trip to Walt Disney World in Florida from May 12 to 15, 2007.

The trip, four days and three nights, is just an idea at this point, junior Mark O’Shea said, and they would like permission to look into it.

A high estimate of the cost per student is $650, adviser Sue St. Pierre said Thursday.

Students will have opportunities to raise money for the trip, she said.

Student Caryn Howell said students know they need to bring eight chaperones as they are expecting at least 50 students to go.

St. Pierre said the plan is to stay right in the park. There are 68 students in the class, she said, and they would like to see them all go but, historically, not all students take part in field trips.

In other business, Despres informed the board that it has a joint meeting with Livermore and Livermore Falls town officials scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Cedar Street Complex. Despres plans to give officials a review of anticipated state school funding, budgets and an estimate of town assessments.

Despres also said two Livermore Falls representatives on the school board have resigned: Rhonda Drake and Damon Rodzen. Both have one year left on their terms as of June 30.

Directors accepted the resignations with regret as well as the retirement intent of teacher Elaine LaPointe, who has been an educator for 45 years, 41 of those in SAD 36.

Directors also agreed to advertise for proposals for a new boiler at the Livermore Elementary School.

A 5-year old boiler at the school sprung a leak twice and needs to be replaced, Vice Chairman Fred Nadeau said Thursday.
