PERU – Road Commissioner David Gammon asked selectmen Monday for a 4 percent raise for his two workers, and Town Clerk Vera Parent asked for a 3 percent raise for her deputy clerk. Both requests were approved.

Selectmen voted to give their secretary, Kathy Hussey, a 3 percent raise pending her review.

Chairman Bill Hine asked when the board had reviewed Hussey’s job performance. Since no recent review had been done, Hine asked that they conduct a review and asked Hussey to provide a copy of her job description to the board.

Selectman Dennis Thibodeau asked if there was enough work for a full-time board secretary.

Selectman Andre St. Pierre said Hussey fielded a lot of work that they didn’t have time to do and was available to answer questions from the office.

Discussion continues between the board and Gammon over the need for two full-time workers.

“How do you explain three of you going for parts?” Selectman Norman DeRoche asked.

Gammon explained that they all went along to do jobs on the way there and back.

Hine asked Gammon to provide a written schedule of all his planned work on tarred roads.

Hussey asked Gammon to write down what was done for paving, cold patching, adding gravel, raking, brushing and ditching so she can keep better track of what’s being done.

Gammon said the dirt roads were horrible and he may start grading in two weeks. He said work continues on opening ice clogged culverts.

Hine reported that the approximate figure for school costs for Peru would be about $40,000.

DeRoche said he was ready to get involved in the SAD 21 budget.

Peru and Carthage will be paying more for education than last year.

The board voted to attend the April 10 final school budget approval instead of having a selectmen’s meeting.

In other business, Selectman Rodney Jamison was appointed as the Med-Care representative and Hussey was appointed as representative to the solid waste board.
