BATH – Inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music, the Battlefield Band will perform a musical program under the banner “Forward With Scotland’s Past” Saturday, April 1, at The Chocolate Church Arts Center.
The group mixes old-time favorites with new self-penned material, playing them on ancient and modern instruments, including bagpipe, fiddle, synthesizer, guitar, cittern, flute, bodhran and accordion.
Named after the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield, where the group was formed by four student friends, the Battlefield Band has played worldwide for about 30 years.
During those years there have been lineup changes, but the musicians were able to maintain the creativity, freshness and enthusiasm for which the band is known.
Current band members: Alan Reid, keyboards/guitar/vocals; Alasdair White, fiddle/whistle/banjo/bazouki/Highland and small pipes/bodhran; Mike Katz, Highland bagpipes/small pipes/whistles/guitar; and Sean O’Donnell, vocals/guitar.
Concert tickets, $20-$25, may be purchased by calling The Chocolate Church Arts Center at 442-8455. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit chocolatechurcharts.org.
