RUMFORD – Nomination papers for seven elected positions are available at the Municipal Building. The signatures of at least 50 registered voters must be gathered for submission to the town clerk no later than 4 p.m. on May 15.
The annual town meeting takes place at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 5, at Mountain Valley High School. Elections for municipal officers take place on June 13.
The only person to take out papers so far, said Town Clerk Jane Giasson, is by J. Arthur Boivin, who may run for a three-year term as selectmen. Boivin is a retired fire chief for the town.
The selectman’s seat is held by James Thibodeau who has been on the board for 15 years, serving many of them as chairman.
SAD 43 school board seats held by Mike Papsadora and Diane Paterson also are up this year. Both have served one three-year term.
Two seats are available on the Board of Assessors. One year of a three-year term must be filled. It was held by Louise Horne, who recently resigned after serving for three years.
A full, three-year term held by Ronald Russell also is up. Russell filled the remaining year left in Craig Chamberlain’s position on the board.
Also up for election is a two-year term as tax collector. The post is held by 10-year veteran Carlo Puiia.
Giasson said she plans to seek another two-year term as town clerk/treasurer. She finished a term begun by Mary Ann Prue, then won a full, two-year term. She also served as deputy town clerk for 16 years prior to winning the clerk’s position.
