JAY – Four more businesses were hit overnight Monday with intruders leaving evidence behind that police hope will help them solve a rash of burglaries that have struck Franklin County since late last year.

People reporting for work early Tuesday in three of the cases discovered the burglaries at Grondin’s Autobody on Route 133, RPH Inc. on Hyde Road and The Hair Doctor on Route 4.

An attempt to enter Subway at Jay Plaza was unsuccessful after an audible alarm was set off, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken from The Hair Doctor, White said. After entry was gained, the intruder rummaged through things in the salon.

At Grondin’s, a door was pried open and the intruder sifted through items and got nothing, White said.

A door at RPH was also pried open and items rummaged through but nothing taken as far as police know, White said.

Jay police are working with the Tri-County Property Crimes Task Force and have leads in the cases, White said.

Police have collected physical evidence, he said, and are having it analyzed.

“We’re not sure all the burglaries are connected,” White said, “but the majority are. We know that through some signature evidence.”

White said the burglaries are taking place late at night.

There have been about 25 burglaries in Franklin, Somerset and Kennebec Counties since late 2005.

Jay police have had several occur within the past few weeks including a break-in at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church last weekend.
