AUBURN – Lionel Guay’s lawyer must share evidence she plans to use at the Lewiston mayor’s trial on sex-related charges, a judge said Thursday.
But defense attorney Jennifer Ferguson has “reasonable time” to show her files to state prosecutors, Androscoggin County Superior Court Justice Thomas Delahanty II said.
Assistant Attorney General Leanne Robbin had hoped the court would order Ferguson to hand over copies of her files by a certain date. Robbin wants to know how Ferguson intends to defend her client in court.
It took Delahanty about one minute to deliver his findings in court Thursday morning. Both sides said they viewed the outcome as at least a partial win.
The brief hearing followed motions filed in the high-profile case. Delahanty did not listen to any courtroom arguments before making his ruling. Robbin said she didn’t expect to file any additional motions.
Guay was charged in November with three counts of sexual touching stemming from allegations by a high school senior. If convicted on all counts, he could be jailed for up to three years, Robbin said.
Court officers said the case could go to trial by late summer or early fall.
