BALTIMORE (AP) – Daniel Cabrera walked six batters in the first inning, and the Boston Red Sox got 16 hits to back an efficient pitching performance by Matt Clement in a 14-8 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

Trot Nixon homered and drove in four runs for the Red Sox, who led 11-0 before the Orioles finally got a runner past first base in the seventh inning.

Boston received 14 walks and had two hit batsmen. Manny Ramirez, who came in batting .100, went 3-for-4 with a walk and his first two RBIs of the season. Kevin Youkilis went 3-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs.

Clement (1-0) allowed four runs and nine hits in seven innings. He gave up four hits over the first six innings before tiring.

Boston set the tone in the top of the first, scoring four times despite getting only one hit – a leadoff bunt single by Coco Crisp. Cabrera (0-1) then walked the bases loaded and forced in three runs with walks before Youkilis hit a sacrifice fly.

The onslaught continued in the second inning. Mark Loretta hit a leadoff double, Ramirez singled in a run and Cabrera was lifted after issuing his seventh walk, tying a career high. Eric DuBose then walked Jason Varitek before Mike Lowell and Youkilis hit RBI singles.

Cabrera yielded seven runs and three hits in 1 1-3 innings. He threw 60 pitches, only 22 of them strikes.

It matched the shortest stint of Cabrera’s career, set in 2004 against Boston. The last major league pitcher to walk six batters in one inning was Cincinnati’s Ryan Dempster in April 2003.

Nixon hit his second homer of the season with a runner on to highlight a three-run fourth, and added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 11-0.

Baltimore ended a run of 15 straight scoreless innings in the seventh. After Corey Patterson and Ramon Hernandez hit two-out RBI singles, Brian Roberts doubled in two runs.

Boston scored three in the eighth, the key hit a two-run double by pinch-hitter Alex Cora. David Newhan hit a three-run homer off Rudy Seanez in the bottom half.
