AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer a certificate program for administrative assistants beginning April 26.

The certificate covers four modules on the essential skills of great administrative support staff. The cost is $195 and includes materials. The program will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, April 26 through May 17.

The program provides an opportunity to develop strategies for achieving effective workload management, enhanced communication and interpersonal relationship skills. Participants will share ideas, best practices, information and techniques and practice new skills.

Participants will develop an understanding of how and why the job of administrative support is changing in today’s workplace, discuss tips for success and share experiences to help each other meet the challenges of the job, learn how to be ready for and accept increased responsibility and develop an action plan for continued professional development.

The program will be taught by Debra Mattson, MSB, MSEd. Mattson has more than eight years of experience working with adult learners as a coach, program designer/evaluator, workforce development trainer and higher education teacher.

She earned a masters in business from Husson College in 1996 and a masters in adult education from the University of Southern Maine in 2003. In addition to providing workforce development training through the Maine Community Colleges, she teaches business management and customer relationship management for the York County Community College.
