Task force meal

PERU – Families in Crisis Task Force will hold a public dinner with spaghetti and meatballs and all the fixings at noon Monday, April 17, at Rockemeka Grange Hall. The dinner is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted. For more information, call Rodney at 562-8581 or 562-8799.

Tournament

RUMFORD – A Dance Dance Revolution tournament for middle and high school students will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the Greater Rumford Community Center. The cost will be $3 a competitor, and all proceeds will benefit the Teen Scene.

There will be prizes for winners. There will also be food available for purchase that will benefit the GRCC gymnastics group. Area teens looking for something to do on their last day of school vacation are welcome to participate. For more information, call Stephanie at 364-7408.

Fundraiser meal

RUMFORD – Hope for Rwanda International and Crosswinds Ministries will host a fundraiser at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Mountain Valley High School. Spaghetti with all the works for $12 and live music will be available in the school auditorium until 5 p.m.

Local talent, ranging from classical pianist to contemporary, country and jazz with Mark Finks from Portland, originally from New Orleans, is scheduled.

Adult and youth dance teams from Abundant Life Church in Bangor will appear also. The public is invited. Those attending will also have the opportunity to meet the Rev. Darius and his wife, Mwaka Twagirayesu. For more information, call Cynthia Libby at 562-8959.

Class sets lunch

Society speaker

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Municipal Auditorium, Congress Street. Curtis Rice will give an outsider’s perspective on the architecture of Rumford Falls. He will present a slide show and lead a discussion on homes and businesses in Rumford. It will also include an architectural history of the Chisholm-era building boom. The meeting is open to the public.

Workshops slated

MEXICO – Maine Educational Opportunity Center will offer the workshop, “The Essentials of College Planning,” from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 18, at the University College at Rumford/Mexico, 13 Brown St., and again from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the Rumford Career Center, 60 Lowell St., Rumford.

Adults considering college are invited to participate in the free college-planning workshop. The center provides support services to help students from low-income and working families enter college. All services are free. Call (800) 281-3703 to register.

Vendors needed

MEXICO – The Mountain Music Festival Committee is looking for people who would like to be vendors at the festival July 1 and 2. Part of the weekend activities will be a craft show/flea market/yard sale. Interested persons can rent a 10-foot x 20-foot space for $15 a day.

Participants will need to provide their own tables and chairs. Hours for the sale will be 9 a.m. to dusk. Overnight camping is also available for an additional charge. Setup may begin on Friday evening, June 30.

During the day on Saturday, a kid’s karnival, a “cruise-in” for area car clubs, a motorcycle rodeo, a car “burn-out” and live music throughout the evening are planned.

Sunday performers include the Don Campbell Band, local artist Jim Gallant, Bill Chinook and his All-Star Band, Barney Martin and Coos Canyon, as well as local bands playing throughout the day.
