OXFORD – Two Oxford men were taken to area hospitals Thursday following an early morning head-on collision on Skeetfield Road, police said.

A car driven by Hugh Bourgoin, 20, collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by Richard Card, 43, about 5:30 a.m., said reserve officer William Grover of the Oxford Police Department.

Bourgoin was transported by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was listed in good condition.

Card was treated and released at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

Two male passengers in Card’s truck were not injured.

Grover said another driver had followed Bourgoin’s vehicle from Auburn and reported erratic driving.

“The vehicle was followed from Auburn with a caller behind him reporting erratic operation,” he said. “The caller stayed on the phone the entire trip right to the point of collision.

“We don’t know if it was fatigue or other medical factors,” Grover said.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and were towed from the scene.
