BUCKFIELD – The Buckfield Village Corporation, which provides water to approximately 185 customers, has petitioned the Maine Public Utilities Commission for approval of an immediate 75 percent increase in water rates. This rate increase would be effective on a temporary basis while the PUC considers a comprehensive rate case over the next few months. The increase was requested to the Buckfield Village Corporation could meet upcoming loan payments.

The PUC will hold a public hearing on the proposed increase on at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at its office at 242 State St. in Augusta.
