MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A man who police said had fantasized about having a sex slave was sentenced Monday to a minimum of 40 years in prison on charges of kidnapping a woman, raping her and cutting her throat.

Charges Rawlings, 36, of Derry, accepted a plea deal to attempted murder, rape and other charges in exchange for the sentence. He faces a maximum sentence of 90 years.

The 22-year-old victim suffered multiple deep cuts to her throat during her abduction last May, police said. She also was beaten, her hands were taped and her mouth was covered. She was raped multiple times.

The woman, who was assaulted in Rawlings’ car and at his home, was able to escape and provide details of his car and license plate.

“I think you are a sick pervert,” the woman said to Rawlings in Hillsborough County Superior Court. “You should rot and burn in prison and in hell. You cut me, beat me, violated me in unimaginable ways. People like you don’t deserve to live.”

Rawlings apologized in court to the woman and her family. “I’ll regret those actions for the rest of my days,” he said.
