Bath Iron Works has landed a $42.7 million Navy contract to continue design efforts and material procurement for the DD(X) warship.

BIW’s work on the project is expected to be completed by June.

“I am thrilled that Naval Sea Systems Command has once again confirmed that Bath-built is indeed best-built by awarding them this contract,” said Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, who announced the contract Wednesday.

“I am confident that the world-class workers at Bath Iron Works will once again deliver an outstanding product,” she said.

Snowe added that the U.S. Navy has the most advanced ships in the world. She said she’ll continue to seek future contracts for BIW “so that we can keep our Navy strong and protect our national security.”
