NORWAY – Margaret K. Staples, 91, of Norway, died Saturday evening, April 22, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Norway on June 14, 1914, the daughter of Howard and Edith Farnham Knightly. She was educated in the Norway Center School and graduated from Norway High School in the Class of 1932.

In 1933, she began working for New England Telephone Co. From 1938 to 1956, she was associated with R.F. Staples Lumber and Staples Funeral Home in Welchville. In 1952, she returned to work for the telephone company in the Norway office. In 1962, she became the repair service clerk in the Lewiston office. Before she retired, she was a station assigner.

She was a member of the New England Telephone Pioneers, a 75-year member of Norway Grange, past matron and 60-year member of Dwinal Chapter OES in Mechanic Falls, a member of the Second Congregational Church and an affiliate member of the Norway Center Church. She enjoyed gardening and visiting with her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Clarence and his wife, Donna, of Oxford, Lewis of Oxford, Edward of Norway and Joseph and his wife, Sue, of Minot; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Burhoe; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Lacko, both of Norway.

She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers Warren, Albert, Norman, Verne and Lewis.
