Miss Maine

WOOLWICH – The Miss Maine Scholarship Program will host its annual dinner, talent presentation and auction at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Taste of Maine Restaurant.

Everyone is invited to attend the Springtime Gala performances by Miss Maine 2005 Megan Beals and each of this year’s contestants and the current Pine Tree Prince and Princesses. A silent and live auction will be held featuring a variety of items.

The Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant and the Miss Maine Outstanding Teen Pageant will be held Saturday, June 3, at Crooker Theater, Brunswick. The pageant is the official state preliminary to Miss America.

Camp days

READFIELD – Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council will hold open house days at its summer camps from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Kirkwold Program Center, Readfield, and Scelkit Program Center, Gerrish Island, Kittery Point, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Pondicherry Program Center, Bridgton.

The director will be available to answer questions about camp programs and site facilities. Self-directed tours will be offered. Camp programs are offered for Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts in grades two through 12.

Trek registration

AUGUSTA – An expected 1,500 cyclists will set off from Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry for the American Lung Association of Maine’s 22nd annual Trek Across Maine-Sunday River to the Sea on Friday, June 16. Supported by more than 300 volunteers, bicyclists will cover 180 miles over the three-day ride, culminating at the new Owls Head Transportation Museum finish line on Sunday, June 18.

Workshop series

AUGUSTA – The Maine Arts Commission will hold a series of free workshops around the state. Contemporary artists, traditional artists, cultural administrators, educators, cultural entrepreneurs and community members are invited.

There will be workshops on contemporary art, grant writing, MaineArts.com and its benefits to the arts and cultural community, community and traditional arts development, Maine’s Percent for Art program, arts education and arts accessibility.

The open houses will begin at 1 p.m. Commission staff will be on hand to answer questions and hear suggestions about how the agency can best serve artists and Maine communities.
