CASTINE (AP) – After a two-day delay caused by computer problems in the engine room, the Maine Maritime Academy training ship departed Friday on its annual two-month training cruise.

Friends and family of the 55 crew members and 220 students aboard the 500-foot State of Maine lined the waterfront to wave farewell as the ship left the harbor at about 5:30 a.m.

The itinerary includes stops in Barcelona, Spain; Gdynia, Poland; Cobh, Ireland, and Portland before the ship’s return to Castine on June 24.

The Barcelona visit will include a trade mission by Maine Built Boats to increase exposure for Maine’s boat building industry.
