LOS ANGELES – Representatives for Microsoft’s Xbox and the Nintendo company held news conferences Tuesday at the E3 video game expo. Here’s a round up of the highlights:

From Xbox:

“Halo 3” will be released sometime in 2007.

“Grand Theft Auto IV” will be out Oct. 16, 2007. It will launch on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 simultaneously.

Xbox Live Anywhere will allow gamers to play against each other on Xbox 360, Windows Vista PCs and Windows mobile phones.

New Hardware: By the holidays, Xbox 360 will have new accessories such as an HD DVD drive, wireless headset, wireless force-feedback wheel and a camera.

From Nintendo:

Launch line up: There are 27 playable games ready for the upcoming Wii and several more are coming.

“Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” will have two versions this fall, one for the Gamecube and one for the Wii. Both will be released on Wii’s launch day later in the year. (No exact date.)

New controller. The Wii’s wireless controller has motion sensors and will allow gamers to play by waving the remote-control shaped device around in the air.
