RUMFORD -The White Sox defeated the Cardinals 4-2 Sunday at Hosmer Field as the Men’s Senior Baseball League (over 30) got under way.

The Cards scored 2 unearned runs in the first inning on a ground out and an RBI single by Steve Lapointe. The Sox did not score until the 8th on a wild pitch by Lapointe, then an RBI single by Jay Russell to tie the game.

Mike Hlister’s RBI hit gave the Sox the lead.

Mike Brennan and Dan Coleman each collected two hits for the winners. Steve Labossiere (2 innings) earned the win in relief of starter Sean Cheetham (5 innings). Coleman (2 innings) received a save. Lapointe took the loss in relief of Mark Palmer (7+ innings).

The White Sox will play at home Sunday against the Red Sox at 9 a.m. at Pettengill Park.

There are now 9 teams in the league, with Diamondbacks already folded.
