LISBON – Drivers who travel Upland Road should mark their calendars for the two-week period beginning June 19. That’s when the Maine Department of Transportation says Upland Road will be closed for a bridge replacement project.

“We need to replace the structural plate pipe arch, similar to an oversized culvert, that carries Upland Road over Barker Brook about half a mile east of Webster Street in Lisbon,” explained Bernard McCarthy, Maine DOT’s construction manager for the project.

“Upland Road will be closed to through traffic at Barker Brook for two continuous weeks beginning on Monday, June 19. Local traffic will still be able to use Upland Road as far as Barker Brook, but through traffic will be directed over a detour using Mill Street, Webster Street and Route 196,” McCarthy continued.

He notes that some work on the project will begin as early as June 9, but the closure and detour aren’t scheduled to go into effect until June 19.

The contract for the project, awarded to Wyman and Simpson of Richmond on a bid of just more than $249,000, calls for completion of all work by the end of July.
