LEWISTON – Richard Wagner of Mountain Avenue recently announced his candidacy to represent Lewiston’s House District 73 in the Maine Legislature.

He is running as a Democrat to replace Lillian LaFontaine O’Brien, who cannot serve again due to term limits. Wagner is a retired educator who taught at Bates College and who has lived in Lewiston for 35 years.

Wagner has been president of the boards of John F. Murphy Homes and the Pettingill School PTA, as well as on the CMMC Institutional Review Board and the Androscoggin Chorale and Tri-County Mental Health boards. He has served as a mediator at the Lewiston District Court since 1980, helping people work through their disagreements rather than arguing in court.

“I believe that a legislator should promote the needs of Lewiston residents,” Wagner said. “Our community needs state funds to improve our schools, support new business initiatives and provide tax relief to middle income and working families. I am determined to make sure that Augusta pays attention to the people of Lewiston.”

Wagner is married to Lois Wagner, a retired librarian who worked at both the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries. The Wagners have four children, as well as three grandsons.
