Dear Sun Spots: I am hoping some of your readers can help our school out. Turner Elementary School is trying to raise money for a new playground. We are collecting empty inkjet cartridges, empty laser cartridges, old/used cell phones and laptops. If any readers have any they would like to donate, please phone me at 225-2682 or 754-8170, and I can make arrangements to pick them up. Also, we are still doing our boxtops4education program. If anyone has any they would like to send me, they can be mailed to Laurie Labbe, 5 Brookfield Estates, Turner, ME 04282. – Laurie Labbe, Turner.

Dear Sun Spots: I live in Poland, where we have the opportunity to recycle cardboard, newspaper, tin cans, glass and No. 2 plastic milk containers. I notice, however, that we end up having to throw out many items which are not readily biodegradable or which might release unhealthy fumes when incinerated. Items such as meat trays or plastic bottles for detergent, shampoo, liquid soap and more. Could readers please respond with ideas and suggestions on how to dispose of these items in an environmentally appropriate manner? Thank you very much for any assistance. – Kathryn in Poland.
