Rotary speakers

LEWISTON – Members of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, May 25, at the Ramada Inn when the Rotary International District 7790’s Group Study Exchange team from France will give a presentation.

Sylvia Plourde, Rotary past president, is the team leader and traveled with a group from Maine and Quebec last May to France to participate in a cultural and professional exchange with Rotarians in central and northwestern France. The group from France is participating in a similar exchange in Maine and Quebec Province.

Lifeguard course

AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is offering a lifeguard certification course on the following dates: May 30, 31 and June 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15. Combined classroom and pool time will run about 6:30 to 10 p.m. each class.

There are several prerequisites for the course, including a 500-yard swim and a minimum age of 15. Upon completion of the course the lifeguard certification and first aid are good for three years, and the CPR expires after one year.

Course fee is $200, including materials. Registration is open, but class size is limited to eight students. Register at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, 62 Turner St. For more information, call 795-4095 or visit the YMCA.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on May 22 were: first, Lucille Bilodeau and Luke Merry; second, Eileen Potvin and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Richard Balian and Pete Cummings; fourth, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; fifth, Joan and Herb Bunker; sixth, Martine Begert and Mary Leahey; first in C, Stephanie Hlister-Croteau and Ellie Ward.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie at 783-1734 for more information. There will be no game on Monday, May 29, Memorial Day.
