Dear Sun Spots: Perhaps a reader can please help me.

In January, my left leg was amputated below the knee in diabetes-related surgery. Shortly after returning home from initial rehabilitation, an uncle and aunt purchased a golf cart to ensure my mobility between my rural home and the 200-yard trip to our lakefront. It was a complete surprise and involved the purchasers in Ohio; a brother-in-law in New Hampshire with a copy of Uncle Henry’s, who found the cart in Augusta; and a son from Auburn who went to view the machine, negotiated the deal and delivered it to me.

The uncle and aunt are graduates of Lewiston High School: Charles Gerald Brown, Class of 1936, and Frances Sheehy Brown, Class of 1939. If someone has a copy of the LHS yearbook for either or both years, I thought it would make a thoughtful token of my appreciation. I may be reached via phone or mail at 170 Lakeshore Drive, Leeds, ME 04263-3331, 524-7361. – F.R. Buck Barclay, Leeds.

Answer: Sun Spots wishes you the best on your healing journey. It sounds like you are well on your way with such caring family members around you. Let’s hope there are readers out there with these yearbooks on their hands who would be willing to share them with you.

Dear Sun Spots: Recently, my father found a bag with eight to 10 used, empty, photo albums in his storage shed. We presume my mother may have bought them at a lawn sale. When I was looking through them, I discovered two facing pages with photos on them. The photos are of a variety of people from toddler to adulthood. The backs of them are marked with: April 1986, and the names Lisa, Brady, Lynn L. Damon, Geo. A., Kay, DW, Alicia, Mama, Larry, Kelly, Dennis and Wanda. If these photographs are yours, please phone me at 357-1250 or 449-1057. Thank you. – Marilla Couch, Mexico.

Dear Sun Spots: I’m looking for a softball team in the Lewiston, Auburn or Brunswick areas. I’m a dedicated player who shows up for games and plays on time. I can pitch, play the right side of the infield in the outfield. I have played in the Biddeford/Saco area but recently moved north. Please phone me at 333-1208, if you know of any openings. – Glen Carey, Sabattus.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots contacted Peter Bushway, director of the Auburn Parks and Recreation, who also worked in Brunswick before working in Auburn. He was a tremendous help. According to Bushway, the Auburn Parks and Recreation doesn’t put individuals on to teams. The teams come to them as a whole unit. They do supply the teams with a list of individuals who are looking to play, as well as providing a list of the team coaches individuals can contact. The two folks who deal with the softball leagues in Auburn are Doug Beck and Loretta Martin. You can reach them by phoning the Auburn Parks and Recreation at 784-0191.

Lewiston has a similar setup. Those organizing their leagues are: CoEd League – Tracy Knowles, 375-6667, and the Men’s League – Tony Gowell, 375-6540.

In addition, there are no men’s teams currently playing in Brunswick. Women’s teams are organized by Tammy Matthews, who may be reached at 729-6598. Men wishing to play might be interested in heading to Bath. Shawn Seeley would be the contact there. He can be reached at 443-9546, or through e-mail at refump@gwi.net.

Bushway also added that all of the leagues are up and operating already, so he’s not sure which teams, if any, need players to add to their rosters. Sun Spots suggests giving the team contacts a call. It’s possible they may just be looking for an extra player. Good luck and “play ball!”
