LEWISTON – Jeanne M. Gowell, 89, of Auburn, passed on very peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a short illness with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Edmondston, New Brunswick on Dec. 18, 1916, the daughter of William and Anna Bouchard. She also had a stepmother, Methaide Bouchard who also predeceased her.

She was a homemaker raising three children and had also worked numerous jobs around the Lewiston/Auburn area over the years. She also worked summers for the family’s blueberry business. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was very active in her earlier years as assistant organist for the church and for children’s Sabbath school classes.

She had a great love for her family along with her love of music, playing the piano and organ right up until her last week of life. She also admired the beauty of the Maine coast along with taking nature walks all over Maine. She will be greatly missed by her family, but she is at peace with her heavenly father.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Gowell and his wife, Sandy and Richard Gowell, all of Auburn; one daughter, Beverly Griffey and her husband, Dr. Eric Griffey, of Greene; one sister, Ann Pontbriand of Lewiston; one brother, Reginald Bouchard and his wife, Muriel, of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Peter and Eric Griffey, Crystal Jordan, Maurice Gowell, and Chad Holland; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Austin and Louryn Griffey, Taylor, Bailey and Jesse Jordan, Tucker Holland, and her latest great-grandson, who was born a few hours after her passing, Devin Griffey.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence C. Gowell Sr.; two brothers, Edmund and Emile Bouchard; one sister, Yvette Jean; and many aunts and uncles.
