Lisbon Falls – Prudence Grant is running for the District 104 seat in the Maine House of Representatives, which comprises Lisbon and most of Lisbon Falls.

Grant is a 23-year resident of Lisbon Falls and a 37-year veteran of teaching at Lisbon High School. “Now that I am retired from teaching, I want to take those years of education background and experience to Augusta to continue to work for full education funding and related education issues,” she said in a prepared statement.

Grant, who was a long-time Lisbon Education Association leader, participated in a legislative blue ribbon commission to study problems of school violence and school safety, out of which came some landmark legislation intended to make schools safer for students and school personnel. That legislation was signed into law in 1999, shortly after the Columbine tragedy.

Grant is also dedicated to serving the needs of the citizens of District 104, many of whom are retired and living on a fixed income just as she now is.

She has degrees from Bates College and the University of Maine, and serves on the Lisbon School Committee. In addition to her interests in education, she spends some of her time buying and selling antiques and collectibles. She has also been involved in harness racing for many years and owns four retired race horses that she had raced.
